Forums of the Canadian Immigrant Resource Network:

Career creation and cooperation

Employment

The employment forum is a one-step on-line Canadian career portal. Its purpose is to connect employers interested in employing immigrant professionals and immigrant job seekers. The national approach has the benefits of providing opportunities for information exchange and it also furthers the understanding of employment trends and needs across the country.

Workplace Creation and Cooperation

In the lack of sufficient job opportunities, self-employment - the elementary unit of an enterprise - became the tool for job creation in the past decades. According to Statistics Canada, over three quarters of the total employment growth since 1989 in Canada has been the result of self-employment. In the age of globalization and technical development, however, most types of small businesses, especially own-account employment, are slowly losing competition in efficiency for business growth, retention or sustainable profit.

In order to strengthen the survival chances and competitiveness of immigrant small businesses, the Canadian Immigrant Resource Network furthers collaboration of immigrant entrepreneurs and entreprises. Its aim is to organize incubator support, work cooperation, marketing help, insurance and financial services for start-up companies (and others) as a type of self-help solution.

With its general approach, the Canadian Immigrant Resource Network brings together expertise and talent both inside professions and among professions. This new type of cooperation promises cost savings by joint operations and faster growth perspectives. Globalization and new technologies have brought about new challenges, but the technical advances can also be utilized in a progressive way. Thanks to modern technology, partners can work together from different locations. The advantages include faster growth and competitiveness by brand-naming, increased efficiency and better warranties for products and services. By fusing and/or complementing jobs and talents, the created entities become stronger than their members can be individually.

Expert Connect: Mentoring / Job Shadowing / R&D / Investment

The Canadian Immigrant Resource Network links professional services throughout the country to provide expert advice in individual and business settings. This integrated approach in skills upgrading and also in R&D collaboration will help both job seekers and the self-employed in competency development and business start-up activities. If clusters and mentor support are behind the starting phase of businesses, this controlled environment will be a stronger guarantee for a faster and longer-lasting success and it will give a better chance for funding and for the interest of investment capital. We are looking for companies that can organize job shadowing events and for professionals who can offer consultant services or mentorship in their area of expertise. We also welcome investor groups interested in the financing of future oriented start-up immigrant business clusters.

How to participate

Applications of interested candidates are welcome. The Canadian Immigrant Resource Network is offering a forum for interested participants and a frame for linking interest and expertise. Organizational, financial and legal considerations will follow as clusters are being formed. A promising larger participation of experts can represent a stronger negotiating basis with banks and corporate sponsors as well.

Please visit the Employment Forum to submit information on existing or expected skill needs in your area. If you are a job seeker, please fill in the Skill Offer Form of the forum. In this way your expertise can be matched with openings in your field and also your data is added to the generated aggregate list of underutilized immigrant talent in the country.

Please enter the Workplace Creation and Cooperation area to submit your ideas and area of interest if you wish to participate with entrepreneurship, innovation or marketing expertise. This structure is intended to serve the establishment of work relationships among all different business types and to promote their active cooperation. Please visit the Expert Connect section to provide information about the services you can bring into the above initiatives or if you need those special services.
